Grandstand Opening Hole Created at Finca Cortesín as One-Year Countdown Begins to 2023 Solheim Cup

20 Sep

Finca Cortesín has unveiled a revamped new first hole to create a grandstand atmosphere for next year’s Solheim Cup.

The new hole is now a 256-metre par-4, with a large lake on the left side that extends to the front of the green, a narrow, well-protected fairway, and a large, undulating green.

It is a driveable par-4, although players will have to contend with a grandstand full of passionate and excitable fans – supporting both the Europeans and the Americans – as they hit their opening shots in each session of the competition.

The “One Year To Go” countdown to the event has now begun. Running from 22 to 24 September 2023, it will be the first time this biennial women’s team match is held in Spain. It thus brings the Costa del Sol full circle on the international golfing stage, 25 years after Valderrama hosted the first historic Ryder Cup to be held outside the British Isles and United States.

To mark the countdown, special events were held in Casares (where the host course is located) and Benahavís and Marbella, two key Costa del Sol golfing municipalities that are collaborating with the organisers and local authorities to offer players and visitors a full program of associated events and activities.
