Presentation of Communicator Awards
ESTABLISHED by the Costa Press Club with the objective of becoming “a regional concept of the Pulitzer Prize”, and now in its fourth year, the Communicator Award recognises outstanding work in journalism.
The latest winners, for 2009, were presented with their awards at the club’s March meeting at Restaurante Bodega La Solera in Fuengirola.
Journalist and editor Belinda Beckett received one of this year’s two awards for her feature “2016: A Capital Year for Spain”, published in Essential Magazine, “a definitive guide to Spain’s candidate cities for 2016 European Capital of Culture”; while journalist and author Josephine Quintero was honoured for her article “Giving Up the Bottle”, published in The Olive Press, on “what goes into that overpriced and polluting bottle of mineral water that is increasingly considered the norm in many homes and restaurants”.
The Communicator Award covers work in all forms of English-language multi-media on the Costa del Sol; previous winning entries have recognised fiction, phrase and legal books, websites and radio appeals.
The former winners are: Mary Harboe, journalist, author and radio presenter; David Searl, journalist and author of “You and the Law in Spain”; Liz Parry, editor of Sur in English; Joan Davies (honorary award), co-founder of Sur in English; Chris Chaplow, founder of Andaluica.com; and David Baird, author of “Between Two Fires: History of Los Maquis”.
The Costa Press Club is an association of media professionals based on the Costa del Sol. It provides a monthly social forum/meeting place and dinner for resident and visiting foreign and Spanish journalists.
