Traditional celebrations at “home” of the Coast’s Burns Suppers

BURNS NIGHT COMES but once a year, but at Hotel Tamisa Golf (Mijas) one night is just not enough. Over Saturday, Sunday and Monday (23, 24 and 25 January) more than 350 people joined in the traditional Scottish celebration inspired by the poet Robert Burns.

Hotelier and native Scot John Peach and his staff were kept on their toes as diners enjoyed the traditional cock-a-leekie soup followed by “haggis, neeps and tatties” accompanied by a wee dram of whisky. The next course of the finest Aberdeen Angus Beef went down very well, as did the Caledonian banoffi pie.

The haggis was ceremoniously piped in by piper Tom Given, then resident Scot Dee McMath gave a fine rendition of the bard’s Address to the Haggis.

With the wine and whisky still flowing, the entertainment heated up with a stunning fashion show compered by Wendy Van der Veen, owner of the Damaris boutique and fashion house in Fuengirola. Stunning evening wear for bride and groom, including full highland dress for sale or hire, had the audience enchanted.

The Celtic Dancers then wowed everyone with a fabulous, atmospheric dance display featuring some incredible costumes and routines.

After all the excellent food, wine and swishing kilts live music in the form of international band Traffic Jam kept the party going well after midnight.
