BMW Automotor Premium Presented as Sustainable Official Car for Solheim Cup

With just 100 days to go before Spain hosts its first Solheim Cup, BMW Automotor Premium has been presented as the event’s sustainable official car. The company will be providing a fleet of all-electric cars for the tournament, which will pit Europe’s leading tour pros against their United States rivals during three days of intense competition (22-24 September) at Finca Cortesín.

During an official presentation at BMW’s dealership showroom in Puerto Banús (Marbella), members of the press were told that the collaboration would enable the Solheim Cup to not only have an impressive fleet of cars but also take the event a step further in becoming the most sustainable edition in history.

“This target will be achieved thanks to the use of more than 40 official cars, all of them electric and distributed among such innovative models as I7, IX, XM, IX1 and I4, which, according to calculations, will result in a saving of around seven tonnes of CO2 emissions.”

Alfonso Rodríguez, divisional director and managing director of BMW and Mini of the Safamotor Group, said during the official announcement that “around 35,000 kilometres will be covered during the week of the event, which will translate into more than six tonnes of CO2 emissions not emitted into the atmosphere. We have to work tirelessly to make the world a better place and to make the event completely sustainable thanks to electrified vehicles.”

Iñigo Aramburu, general manager of the tournament organisers, Deporte & Business, highlighted “the importance of an event like the Solheim Cup having courtesy vehicles that are not only high quality but also environmentally friendly. There could be no better showcase for the tournament’s and the Bavarian brand’s commitment to sustainability.”
