PEDRO MARTÍNEZ de la Rosa, one of Formula 1’s nice guys and (with Antonio Lobato) the only member of last season’s commentating team for La Sexta that made their TV coverage bearable (the OzinSpain household depends exclusively on Spanish Digital+ channels) will be back in the driver’s seat this year as BMW Sauber’s second signing after Kamui Kobayashi.
Born in Barcelona on 24 February 1971, de la Rosa made his Formula 1 debut in the 1999 Australian Grand Prix (Arrows) and – in a total of 71 career races – has had a best finish so far of second in the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix. He has been a test and reserve driver for McLaren the past seven years – as well as combining his broadcasting duties for Spanish TV (La Sexta and previously Telecinco).
